Enter your weight and height in metric or imperial units and get your body mass index with the WHO category it falls in, updated live as you type.

BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis: it does not distinguish muscle from fat and reads athletic builds as heavy. Useful as a rough gauge and for forms that ask for it. Your numbers stay on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How is BMI calculated?

Weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. A 70 kg person at 175 cm has a BMI of 70 / 1.75² = 22.9, which falls in the healthy range.

What are the healthy BMI ranges?

WHO adult ranges: under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 healthy, 25 to 29.9 overweight, 30 and above obese. Some Asian-population guidelines use slightly lower cutoffs, with overweight starting at 23.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not particularly. Muscle is denser than fat, so muscular people often read as overweight despite low body fat. Treat BMI as a population screening tool; waist measurement and body composition tell an individual more.
